Biography

I have had a career-long interest in neural control of cardiorespiratory function with an emphasis on the characterization and origin of the naturally occurring discharges of sympathetic and phrenic nerves. I was a recipient of a prestigious National Institutes of Health MERIT (Method to Extend Research in Time) Award.

Dr. Susan Barman Has Helped Raise the Bar for Women in Biomedical Science

She was going to stay only two years at MSU. That was nearly 50 years ago and now Dr. Susan Barman can't imagine having taken her skills as a scientist and researcher anywhere else. "I really liked what I was doing here," she said.
